What was your life like before hej.build?
Back then I still had a notebook. Today I have notion. That actually sums up how we work at hej.build quite well, because anyone who knows notion knows what that means: structured, transparent, in sync and connected.
How do you stay up to date?
Very broadly! My day starts and ends with a headline check of FAZ, SPON, SZ, Zeit, TAZ, Bunte and Gala (roughly in that order) and reading selected articles. Beyond that, I like reading the design magazine form and various architecture and design newsletters, and I follow LinkedIn and Insta. But my favourite way to keep up is talking to friends and like-minded people, and travelling, visiting museums and exhibitions and going to events.
What is your favourite building and why?
Ask me something easier… My conscious awareness of architecture began with the International Style, which to me as a child was the epitome of »modern«.
The real eye-opener was Alvar Aalto’s (residential) buildings. I love details and materials, good floor plans and nature. With Aalto, all of that comes together. He transformed modernism into an architecture that turns towards people and nature. And with a very compact and intelligent use of space. More relevant today than ever.
If I really have to name one specific building? My grandfather’s house. He designed and planned it himself as a young father. To me it’s perfectly proportioned, with lots of loving, well-thought-out details that I only recognised and understood over the course of my career.

Which topic is keeping you busy right now?
Tell us briefly which building products it’s about and what you want to achieve. We’ll get back to you with an initial assessment. We often start with our »Day One« workshop: a day at your premises, where marketing, sales and senior management set priorities together.
